"The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort, but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hey! I am here to take you on my journey... about two years ago I was playing basketball and I tore my ACL. I currently work as a 4th grade Special Education teacher in Queens during the day and a Fitness Professional/ Personal Trainer nights and weekends. Once I was injured, my active lifestyle was put on pause, and the surgery followed soon after. Hearing the words, "you will be back to your normal lifestyle in about a year" is by far the most dissatisfying words I could have heard. Trying to keep a positive outlook on it all, I decided to make other people aware that a successful recovery is possible and I am confident I will work my hardest to have one.
I have realized many people are going through similar situations and decide to prolong the surgery out of fear of the pain or the outcome. With my entire life ahead of me, I did not give myself the choice, ligaments will never heal and I want to go back to my normal lifestyle so surgery, for me, was a must!
It took about a year and some to get myself back to these pictures. I still have a slight pain but it has not stopped me in the least. Since surgery I have done a Tough Mudder, multiple Spartan Races, and many obstacle course races. I have to work hard at the gym to keep my leg muscles strong to help support the ligaments surrounding my knee. Life is all about the story...so here's mine...
